Jumping Spider Catches a Fly

Posted on 2021/02/082021/02/10

I got up to stretch my legs and walk around outside for a bit. Since the sun was shining I started looking in the garden for some of our friendly guardians, the jumping spider. I had seen a rather large spider the day before but it was being very shy and wouldn’t come out of the crack in the shingles. Today I noticed they had just caught a house fly! The fly was easily a half-inch long. My X-T3 is set up to shoot macro using the 100-400mm lens and some extension tube totaling 52mm. I’m lucky enough that the auto-focus works really well with this setup even with the super shallow depth of field. I was only able to snap off a handful of shots before the tiny hunter pulled its meal into a crevasse to be eaten in peace.

Hello thar!
“Dis iz mine”
Holy crap that fly is HUGE
